Brownlow 2023: A look back at the WORST dressed from last year’s red carpet as a sea of fresh faces are predicted to bring some questionable fashion trends

The AFL WAGS are expected to experiment with fashion again at the Brownlow Medal 2023 ceremony in Melbourne on Monday evening.

As a wave of new faces grace the red carpet this year, several stars will put on a breathtaking display of glittering glamor with their designer gowns and elegant sense of style.

However, many will be missing the point with their dubious looks at the AFL’s night of nights.

Stylist Meggy Smith, who dresses North Melbourne star Nick Larkey’s partner Georgina Lamont, predicts ‘quiet luxury’ is here to stay. Sydney Morning Herald reported.

She also believes there will be a lot of “texture” and “mixed materials” used to add uniqueness and intrigue.

Sadly, last year saw a number of misses from some of Australia’s favorite WAGS, with Josh Dunkley’s girlfriend Tippah Dwan failing to hit the right notes in her metallic gold dress, cowboy-style belt at the waist and matching necklace.

The modern, sleek hair did nothing to redeem her dated look.

As quirky as her attempt was, Matisse Stynes, who attended with her brother Tiernan, was far too casual in her crop top and long black trousers.

Gold Coast Suns star Mabior Chol’s girlfriend Lauren Harris favored a long-sleeved latex-style dress that highlighted her phenomenal figure but didn’t do much to make her stand out from the crowd.

Another black dress that failed to impress was worn by Maddie Leek, who was joined by Touk Miller. The lace design only looked like it was pilling — and quickly — as she walked sideways to the red carpet, even though it was perfectly tailored to her body and well structured.

The Blues’ Patrick Cripps and Monique Fontana posed on the red carpet, but Monique’s navy dress with a v-neck and a large bow at the front (as well as a train) had way too much going for it and was distracting to the eye.

Last year, former North Melbourne player and coach Dani Laidley stole the show in a Marquise Atelier dress styled by celebrity alumnus Lana Wilkinson.

Also turning heads for all the right reasons in 2022 was special education teacher Brit Selwood – wife of three-time premiership Geelong player Joel Selwood – who showed off her baby bump in spectacular fashion in a flowing silver dress with a striking slit down her leg.

Brit, who gave birth to son Joey in February, showed off her curves in a daring backless v-neck chainmail, leaving her brown mane fuss-free in a straightened style.
