It comes to a fellow Brookside legend Louis Emerick discussed how there is a “stigma” surrounding soap actors.

The TV star, 64, made a name for himself playing Mick Johnson Channel 4‘s now defunct series Brookside in the 1990s and published later Kroningsstraat And Doctors.

But he has now hit out at critics of the genre, claiming that ongoing dramas don’t always get the praise they deserve.

He told it The Daily Star Sunday: ‘Soap actors are underestimated. There is still a stigma.

‘But some scenes you see in a soap opera would not be out of place in a drama. Look at the things they’re doing now.

“If some of those storylines were in a drama, people would say, ‘That’s fantastic.’ But because they’re on soaps, people don’t make enough fuss about them.”
