A New York bishop has taken action against a parish that allowed pop star Sabrina Carpenter to film a controversial music video in a century-old church in Brooklyn.

Last week, Brooklyn Bishop Father Robert Brennan criticized Carpenter’s video for her song “Feather,” which was recorded at the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church.

In the video, Carpenter, 24, wears only racy outfits as she watches several men who wronged her die.

At one point she steps into the church to attend a funeral for the dead men, where she moves through a number of pastel-colored coffins, one of which is labeled “RIP B****.”

The local bishop was shocked by the content of the video and expressed his dismay at the local parish for failing to prevent its recording.

His statement read: ‘The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding filming on church property, including a review of the scenes and script.’

The parish initially claimed that the production company had “failed to accurately represent the video content,” but an investigation found that the documents provided to the parish adequately described “inappropriate conduct unfit for a church sanctuary.” .

Because of the error in judgment, Brennan announced that the parish’s pastor, Monsignor Jamie Giantiello, was removed from his position, although he will remain at the church as pastor.

After the announcement, Brennan and Monsignor Joseph Grimaldi held a reparation Mass, during which the bishop blessed the altar with holy water.

In a statement after the Mass, the diocese said: “By celebrating this Mass, Bishop Brennan has restored the sanctity of this church and repaired the damage.”

The Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish, located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, was first organized in 1863 and was largely a gathering place for Lithuanian Americans.

The parish is reportedly the only one to offer a weekly Sunday Mass entirely in Lithuanian.

Carpenter, who opened for Taylor Swift on the Latin American leg of her record-breaking Eras tour, released the video for Feather last week. It has since been viewed almost 5 million times.

Earlier this year, Carpenter wrapped up her Emails I Can’t Send tour, which toured North America before heading to South America, Europe and select parts of Southeast Asia.

The petite blonde will also star in an upcoming Alice in Wonderland musical for Netflix.
