Bronson Xerri’s brother Troy is back behind bars after being accused of a violent home invasion while on parole over crash that killed mum

The brother of an NRL star is back behind bars after his parole was revoked less than a year after he served a prison sentence for causing a horrific crash that killed a mother of three.

Troy Xerri was released on parole from Macquarie Correctional Centre in November last year after serving two years and four months in prison for the fatal crash in 2019.

The 32-year-old, brother of Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs star Bronson Xerri, was driving his Toyota HiLux through Sydney’s north-west on November 11, 2019 when he lost control of the car.

His pickup truck crossed the central reservation, ended up on the wrong side of Blaxland Road in Eastwood and collided head-on with a hatchback driven by Joanne Duke.

The 63-year-old mother of three was killed and another woman was injured when Xerri’s car collided with a second vehicle before coming to rest on a utility pole.

Xerri’s passenger Michael Nader was hospitalized for a week with head injuries and back pain resulting from the crash.

After pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, Xerri was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison, with a non-parole period of two years and four months.

Mrs Duke’s husband criticised the punishment as “disgusting” and “pitiful”, while other family members called Xerri “a coward” for not helping her.

The 32-year-old was serving the remainder of his probation period in society when he was charged in July over a violent home invasion in central Sydney.

Police allege he broke into an apartment on Wattle Crescent in Pyrmont on the evening of May 21 while resident Atitad Romchampa was at home.

According to court documents, Xerri allegedly assaulted Mr Romchampa and caused him injuries that amounted to grievous bodily harm.

On July 3, he was charged with breaking and entering a dwelling and causing grievous bodily harm and was subsequently remanded in custody.

The Merrylands resident has not yet filed a plea and has been denied bail.

On Monday, the NSW State Parole Authority confirmed that Xerri’s parole in connection with the fatal crash had been revoked.

A spokesman said the authority will hold a hearing on revoking bail once the new charges are finalized.

Xerri is due back in court next month over the alleged violent burglary, which reportedly happened just weeks before his brother Bronson returned to rugby league after a doping ban.

The player was banned from playing in the NRL for four years after testing positive for steroid use.

He returned to the game in April, making his club debut for the Canterbury Bulldogs in a round five win over the Sydney Roosters.
