Hard-hitting Broncos safety Kareem Jackson caused a helmet-to-helmet collision that sent him to the locker room and will almost certainly land him in further trouble with the league.
Jackson’s ejection in the second quarter was the start of a momentum shift as Sam Howell lifted the Washington Commanders from an 18-point deficit to a 35-33 victory on Sunday.
The veteran defensive back launched himself at Logan Thomas moments after the Washington tight end somehow hauled in a four-yard TD pass.
As a result, Thomas left the game to be assessed for concussion and was ruled out. This week he will undergo concussion protocol.
Several commanders objected and confronted Jackson before being separated.

The referees called Jackson for a personal foul and disqualified him from the Week 2 match.
It is the second week in a row in which Jackson has drawn a flag for an illegal hit.
Last weekend, Las Vegas Raiders receiver Jakobi Meyers took off on the final drive of the game after taking a shot from Jackson that drew an unnecessary roughness flag.
Jackson was fined $14,189 for the hit on Meyers, who was out for the weekend with a concussion.
After the Raiders loss last week, Jackson told reporters after the game; “I just want to say I hope he’s doing well,” via the Denver Post Parker Gabriel.
“Obviously we’re not playing this game to hurt guys. It is a tough sport that we practice. …Unfortunately, things like that happen. I definitely send my thoughts and prayers to him.”
Broncos coach Sean Payton did not elaborate on whether he thought the league would be inclined to suspend Jackson.
“From my point of view, these things happen so quickly. You only get to see it once,” Payton said of the play.

“You look up and they call, and you have to agree to it,” the former Saints coach added.
Denver’s All-Pro cornerback talked about Jackson’s skills when speaking to reporters after the game.
“We know Kareem, and we know he likes to tackle and he likes to make big hits,” Broncos corner Patrick Surtain II said after the game. “He’s a very physical player.”
Thomas’ touchdown sparked the Commanders’ comeback from a 21-3 deficit, leaving the Broncos scoreless.
It marks the first time in franchise history that Denver has lost consecutive home games to start a season.
