Broncos QB Russell Wilson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery but is set to return in time for OTAs
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is going under the knife for arthroscopic knee surgery, but is expected to be OTA-ready as he looks for the comeback season.
Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after the 2022 season, according to reports Wednesday, as the procedure was considered a “minor cleanup.”
The 34-year-old has since resumed training and shooting, according to NFL Network Insider’s Ian Rapoport, and is expected to be ready for the start of Organized Team Activities (OTA) this coming low season.
Wilson had the procedure to resolve a problem that “bothered him for a few seasons,” according to Rapoport. The former Super Bowl champion is entering his second season in Denver, but first under new head coach Sean Payton.
Wilson had a dismal 2022, on par with the Broncos as an organization. He went 4-11, passing for 3,524 yards and 16 touchdowns against 11 interceptions.
He has a big year ahead of him after missing two games with injuries and finishing with a career-low completion percentage (60.5 percent) last season. The nine-time Pro Bowler had a partially torn hamstring that kept him out of league action against the New York Jets in Week 7.

The 34-year-old struggled through most of last season, posting career lows in TD (16) and completion percentage (60.5 percent).
Wilson also suffered a concussion in Week 14 against the Kansas City Chiefs that sidelined him for the Broncos’ matchup against the Cardinals in Week 15.
Payton should help Walter Payton’s 2020 NFL Man of the Year rediscover his form from his Seattle days, as Wilson has a responsibility to deliver after he was traded big by the Broncos early last season, when they gave their first-round picks. this year and last year to the Seahawks.
What’s more, Denver signed Wilson to a five-year extension, valued at $245 million, including $165 million guaranteed, even before he threw his first pass for the Broncos in September.
Wilson will earn guaranteed money for each of the next two seasons.
Considered one of the greatest dual threat quarterbacks of all time, Wilson passed for 40,583 yards with 308 touchdowns and 98 interceptions in 173 career starts with Seattle (2012021) and Denver.
