Broncos hire new QB coach to work with 34-year-old Russell Wilson and it’s Giants backup Davis Webb

The Denver Broncos have hired 28-year veteran quarterback Davis Webb to be the team’s new QB coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Webb spent last season as a backup to the New York Giants behind Daniel Jones and has spent most of his career as a backup, if not even lower in depth for an NFL team.

Davis was originally taken by the Giants in the third round in 2017 and also spent time with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills before eventually returning to the Giants.

The Bills reportedly offered Webb the chance to go straight from playing to coaching last season, but he turned down the offer to return to New York as a player.

Schefter noted that Webb would “consider making the jump to coach for the right opportunity,” he was offered a chance to return to the Giants in January, but he turned down the opportunity.

It looks like a chance to coach 34-year-old Russell Wilson as he tries to rebound from what was by far one of the worst seasons of his star career.

Wilson finished last season with just 3,524 yards to go with a career-low 16 touchdowns.

He also had a career-low 60.5 percent completion percentage and tied for the second-most of his career interceptions with 11.

The Broncos finished the season 5-12 and fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett midway through his first season in charge after starting the season as a team expected to be in Super Bowl contention following the successful trade that saw Wilson join the team from the Seattle Seahawks last offseason.

It also appears that Wilson and the Broncos staff will be without starting running back Javonte Williams, after a report emerged from ESPN’s Jeff Legwold that Williams could miss games well into 2023 as a result of the serious injury to his knee. knee that ended his season early.
