Newly hired Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton praised Denver Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke ahead of the 2023 NBA Finals, but the sentiment may not be shared by much of the fans.

Kroenke’s Nuggets kicked off the NBA Finals with a 104-93 victory over the Miami Heat on Thursday night and if they clinched the NBA title it would cap an era of great individual success for its owner.

“In two years, the Kroenke’s have won a Super Bowl, won a Stanley Cup and are capable of winning an NBA championship,” said Payton. “It’s good to be a Kroenke for the past two years.”

As Payton referred to, Kroenke not only owns the Denver Nuggets, but also the 2022 Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams and the 2022 Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.

If Kroenke’s Nuggets can win the finals, he would be the first owner to win all three major North American sports titles.

He also owns the Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League, which won the title in 2022 and will look to repeat in a winner-takes-all game on Saturday.

Fans of Kroenke’s other high-profile team, English Premier League runners-up Arsenal, didn’t seem to show the same love for Kroenke in North London as they do in the United States.

Two years ago, Arsenal fans poured into the streets outside the Emirates to protest Kroenke, not only because of the team’s poor performance when they sat 11th in the league, but also because of the proposed European Super League.

During the protest, homemade signs with things like ‘Kroenke Out! Gunnersaurus In!’, ‘We wouldn’t wish Kroenke on the tracks’, ‘Stop the Standemic’, and many more that read much more vulgar words.

However, a slew of transfers that have transformed the Gunners line-up under head coach Mikel Artea over the past two years could have at least assuaged the feelings for Kroenke among Arsenal fans.

Arsenal have returned to the Champions League after finishing second in the 2022-23 Premier League season.

But things could have been better for the north London red side – the team held an eight-point lead over Manchester City in April, but hit a rocky spot at the worst of times.

But overall, the season was one of progress for Arsenal, even if it failed to win a league title.

If the Denver Nuggets win this season’s NBA Finals, Kroenke could secure a historic treble

Andrew Allen, one of the main contributors to the fansite Arseblog, was quoted as saying Athletics in April: ‘It felt to me as if KSE, as a company, was asleep behind the wheel at Arsenal in those early years; they were disconnected and seemed happy with their status as passive rather than active owners.

“It’s very hard to go back from that impression, but it’s gotten better.

“What tickles most supporters is loosening the wallet to buy players who have improved the team.”

“They also deserve credit for signing the signing of Arteta, which was a big decision in hiring a coach who was so young and had no experience at the highest level as a manager.”

Just two years ago, Arsenal fans were very vocal about protesting Kroenke’s ownership

And they deserve credit for backing him up when it would have been really easy to pull the trigger.

“They saw something in Arteta, a vision they couldn’t conjure up themselves.

‘Since those early years, they’ve gone up a bit in my estimation. I’m more confident that the people below them are at the level required to manage a football club like Arsenal, and that’s all we need now.”
