While Cardoza claimed he was “held at gunpoint” by the suspect, police told DailyMail.com that the suspect did not have a weapon
“I offered to buy him lunch because I didn’t have any cash on me, and things escalated very quickly from there,” the message said.
While Cardoza claimed he was “held at gunpoint” by the suspect, police told DailyMail.com that the suspect did not have a weapon. Instead, police confirmed that the suspect used his hand to “simulate” having a gun in his pocket.
The suspect, whose identity is not yet known, fled the scene. No arrests have been made.
“I’m doing fine, ultimately he didn’t get away with something irreplaceable,” Cardoza said in the post.
Cardoza lost his ID, two visas, an insurance card and $9, according to police.
After the meeting, the actor performed in the Easter matinee show of ‘The Notebook’.
“I was grateful that right after the robbery I had a place to go, full of people I love, doing work I love. So I have been in good hands,” his post read.
‘It saddens me to think that people are so desperate – and it saddens me to feel the need to alert anyone to this kind of activity.
“But it’s the world we live in, and if you’re like me, you’re already cautious and don’t think it’s going to happen to you until it’s staring you in the face.”
The Broadway star then confirmed in a second Instagram Story that the suspect had attempted to use his credit card at several stores in the area.
“I wouldn’t want anyone to be overwhelmed in these places that we all frequent,” he said.
In a third post, Cardoza thanked his followers for the outpouring of support and concern.
“I live in New York and these things unfortunately happen more often than we think and I didn’t expect this to go so far beyond my personal story here,” he said.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, fled the scene
No arrests have been made
“I just wanted to draw the attention of some friends, and anyone who lives in the area to be careful because it really sneaks up on you and I don’t know where that guy is right now. I want people to be healthy and alert.’
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
