Two men have died after their stolen car crashed into a utility pole, with police finding two firearms in the wreckage.

The fatal collision happened along Camp Road near Broadmeadows, in Melbourne’s north, at 5.30am on Tuesday.

The passenger died at the scene while the driver was taken to hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Detective Sergeant Daryll Out of the Victoria Police Major Crash Investigation Unit said the white Hyundai was seen by bystanders and police traveling at about 180km/h early on Tuesday.

“When this accident happened, the speed was estimated at well over 60mph,” he said.

‘It had the potential to be absolutely disastrous for everyone in the area.

“It is extremely worrying for the police that we have been exhibiting this kind of behavior all evening.”
