Dramatic moment when hero traditions take down an alleged car thief and make a civilian arrest: ‘Well done, legends’
- A group of craftsmen carried out a citizen’s arrest
- An alleged car thief was pinned to the road
- Police then handcuffed the 25-year-old man
A group of quick-thinking artisans have been hailed as “legends” after they made a dramatic civilian arrest of an alleged car thief.
The men in hi-vis restrained the man, 25, after he crashed into a power pole at Surf Parade in Broadbeach, Queensland, before 11am on Friday.
The man, driving a supposedly stolen Ford Mondeo, came within meters of hitting the trades as they took a break outside the yard.
The alleged thief attempted to flee the scene on foot, but not before a small army of cronies sprinted after him and pinned him to the ground.
Footage captured by onlookers shows at least three transvestites restraining the man in the middle of the road before police arrived and handcuffed him.

Queensland Police said in a statement: ‘It will be alleged that the 25-year-old male driver tried to flee on foot but was stopped by onlookers.
“The police arrived and arrested the man.
“No one was injured in the incident.”
Broadbeach resident Bobby-Jo Campbell was nearby in his apartment when he heard a loud bang outside.
“I was just about to make coffee when I heard a bang outside,” he told 9News.
Came out to see all the guys from the construction site running after some guy.
“I jumped off my balcony and tried to help.”

Sergeant Mitch Gray said that while he would not encourage the public to make civilian arrests, the cronies had “done an amazing job” in taking the man into custody.
Police said the Ford Mondeo was allegedly stolen on Tuesday from an address in Bilambil Heights in NSW’s Tweed Shire, just under 30 km from Broadbeach.
The 25-year-old man was wanted by Queensland police before his arrest on Friday.
