Brittany Mahomes reveals how ‘corny’ Patrick won her over as a teenager at high school: ‘We were friends for a really long time’

Brittany Mahomes opens up about her early years as a high school student, when they performed together as NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes.

Brittany opened up on the Whoop Podcast about how the early days of their relationship eventually led to their marriage.

She explained that Patrick was the one who made the first move, and that it may have started as a joke.

‘We were friends for a long time. He tried to date me for a while and I just didn’t feel like it, I stayed in my own lane, did my own thing.

‘One day during lunch, because we sat at the same lunch table every day, [he] I was trying to be a little sentimental I guess, you could say – [he] wrote me a Valentine’s letter and brought me a rose and was so cute.

‘I thought it was the cutest thing ever and he just did it to be, I don’t know, sarcastic?

“I really liked that he tried to do something really sweet and I think from that point on we just kind of started talking and dating.”

When asked how seriously they took their relationship in the early days, Brittany admits that they didn’t take it that seriously in the beginning.

‘I don’t think it was serious because we were 16 and we weren’t really thinking about the future and what it would look like, because he was only in his second year and I was in my third year, and we were still in high school.

I don’t think when we started dating [we] I thought it would be something like that, but I’m glad it turned out this way and we’re really enjoying life together.’

Mahomes has liked several social media posts over the past week expressing her support for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. This position seems to be at odds with that of her new best friend Taylor Swift, who is dating Patrick’s Kansas City Chiefs teammate Travis Kelce.

In that same WHOOP podcast interview, Brittany credited Patrick with helping her ignore criticism she receives online as her fame continues to grow.

“He’s really good at blocking people, so it helped having him next to me,” she said.

She also shared how Patrick helped her learn to deflect criticism

‘The most important thing he always told me is to stop worrying about what other people think, especially when they don’t even know you.

“I think social media used to really affect me. Now it’s just that I honestly don’t give a shit what people say about me. And I think he helped me get to that point.

“I’m strong in who I am. I’m confident in who I am. I’m confident in my relationship and his, and I’m confident in our lives. So why should what other people say even matter?”
