Brittany Cartwright talks co-parenting son Cruz, three, with ‘terrible husband’ Jax Taylor amid divorce

Brittany Cartwright hopes she and Jax Taylor can have a “healthy” co-parenting relationship as they deal with their divorce.

The 35-year-old Vanderpump Rules alumnus told PEOPLE on Thursday that Jax, 44, is an “amazing dad” and that their 3-year-old son Cruz is their priority.

But she admitted that tensions between her and her ex, whom she split from in February, are still running high and that it will take “some time” before they reach a “healthy” balance.

“He’s a great dad. Great father, terrible husband. I’m never going to take Cruz away from him,” Brittany began.

“We will always put Cruz first and we will work towards a healthy co-parenting relationship.”

Despite all the drama between them, Brittany said she can always count on her ex.

“It’s going to take a while. Things are still very raw between us, but overall I know that if I needed anything, if Cruz needed anything, I could call him and he would be there for us,” she explained.

Hours before Brittany’s comments were published, DailyMail.com obtained photos of Jax moving his belongings out of their $2 million marital home in LA on Wednesday.

After five years of marriage and a six-month separation, Brittany officially filed for divorce from her The Valley co-star on August 27.

Brittany cited “irreconcilable differences” and requested primary legal and physical custody of their toddler son Cruz, as well as visitation rights for Jax.

Jax later admitted that he doesn’t blame Brittany for filing for divorce.

He said on the When Reality Hits podcast: “Unfortunately, she’s had enough. And I don’t blame her at all. I mean, I can’t believe she’s been with me this long. That we’ve stayed, to be honest.”

Despite this, Jax was still surprised when Brittany decided to leave him.

The reality star said: ‘When she decided to leave, I was a little bit shocked. I shouldn’t have been shocked, but I was shocked.’

Jax admitted he’s been going through a “really, really tough” time since his split from Brittany.

He added: “Anyone who has ever been through a divorce knows how difficult it is.”

Sources previously told TMZ that Taylor received his divorce papers on camera.

The insider told the media that the former couple were both filming for The Valley, but that they “didn’t film anything” together on Tuesday.

According to the publication, a “third party brought the documents” to Taylor.

According to sources familiar with his and Cartwright’s relationship, she “took the initiative and decided it was time to file charges” after determining he “had done too many things for reconciliation to occur.”

Taylor is said to be ‘angry about all the praise Brittany is getting for her decision to report’, as he believes she ‘has her own dark side’.

Fans have been warned that the second season of The Valley is going to be ‘tough’.

The split came just months after Brittany underwent secret cosmetic surgery.

The star of Bravo’s The Valley told DailyMail.com exclusively that she had a two-hour AirSculpt treatment in May, which removes fat and tightens skin, so she could feel good about her body all summer long.

The work was done three months before Taylor filed for divorce.

And the reality TV sensation is ‘overjoyed’ with the move, which has given her confidence a boost after a very tough year.

“I feel great since I had AirSculpt done,” she told DailyMail.com as new photos showed off her slim figure.

“Yeah, I guess you could say I wanted a revenge body. I wanted to look good after everything I’ve been through this year. I want to look my best. I wanted to get my glow back.”

For her, it is a big adjustment to be newly single.

“I’m working on myself because I need to heal. To be honest, I thought I was going to be with Jax forever, so this is so new to me. It takes some time to heal and move on,” she told DailyMail.com.
