Briton, 33, drowns while diving near famous Greek shipwreck ‘in rough seas’

A British tourist has drowned while diving at a famous shipwreck in Greece during “rough seas”, local media report.
The 33-year-old man was swimming at the Epanomi shipwreck in Thessaloniki when he reportedly got into trouble on Sunday afternoon.
He was pulled from the sea by another swimmer as emergency services, including a lifeboat, rushed to the area.
Paramedics were unable to revive the unconscious man on the beach and he died at the scene, a Greek news site reported. SL Press reports.
The deceased was taken to Hippocrates Hospital where an autopsy is being conducted. The Michaniona Port Authority is investigating the death.

The man is said to have been in the water when a brief storm and rain occurred ‘difficult’ weather conditions.
Although the wreck is a popular diving spot on a sandbar near the coast, local media say it is usually avoided by swimmers in bad weather.
Epanomi is a small town in the Thessaloniki region of northern Greece. The shipwreck beach is less than 32 km away from the city of Thessaloniki.
