Britney Spears’ former assistant recalls supporting star through her infamous head shaving incident and says ‘lonely’ singer would try to make friends with strangers: ‘I saw a sad person’
Britney Spears’ former assistant Sean Phillip has recalled supporting the star through some of her toughest times as she releases her shocking new memoir The Woman In Me.
Sean, who lived with the pop singer, now 41, for a while, described her as a “sad person” when discussing her infamous 2007 head-shaving incident.
Speaking on Tuesday’s GMB, he said: ‘For me personally, I saw a sad person… I was worried about her, I felt protective of her at the time. It was no longer a job, it was protection in a kind of friendship way.’
Sean told presenters Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway how he had tried to convince the star to seek professional help by taking her to a facility after the head shaving incident.
“We were told that she was being sued by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, and that we had to take her to a facility and she agreed to go to a facility and we went.”

He continued, “But she had to voluntarily check herself in and when we got there she didn’t want to do it and no one could make her do it.”
“He came over and we had a long discussion, a very emotional discussion between herself, her father and a few other people. That was actually the last time I saw her
Sean continued, “She walked out the front door with her dad, turned around and said, ‘I love you’ and ‘Goodbye.’ I felt a certain way, I felt like this was a goodbye.
‘I had no idea what would happen next, no information about the legal issues that were going on and what would happen next. Then it got a little worse, a lot worse.”
He then revealed how Britney would often approach strangers, recalling an incident with a group of surfers in Malibu and saying she “just wanted friends.”
“The problem with Britney having friends is that a lot of people wanted to be friends with Britney for the wrong reasons. Those people that day were nice gentlemen who took care of her, they called me and I picked her up.”
Adding: ‘I saw things on the news and saw her with people I didn’t know, who I’d never met. I worried people would take advantage of her.”

Honest: Sean said that when Britney refused, they drove home and felt helpless. They called her father, Jamie Spears, which ultimately led to the start of the star’s controversial 13-year conservatorship
Richard then asked about Mel Gibson who had reportedly called to offer Britney help, saying, “He wanted to offer her guidance in some way.”
When he received calls offering help after the head-shaving incident, he told the hosts, “I received a lot of interesting calls during that time. There were a lot of people who wanted to help, their hearts were in the right place, but it was too chaotic… “I just need five minutes with her.”
Sean went on to say that he doesn’t know if he’ll read Britney’s new book, but says it’s “a good thing” that she gets to tell her own story.
It comes after Britney finally revealed why she shaved her head during her infamous 2007 downward spiral.
The pop megastar got candid about the incident and the reasoning behind it in an excerpt from her highly anticipated memoir The Woman In Me, obtained by People magazine on Tuesday.

While in the middle of a painful divorce from Kevin Federline and constantly in the public eye, the mother of two opened up about what led her to that moment.
She wrote, “I was watched so much growing up. Since I was a teenager, I was looked at from head to toe and people told me what they thought of my body.
“Shaving my head and acting were my ways of pushing back.”
As a result, she was placed under conservatorship a year later in 2008, giving her father Jamie Spears and a lawyer full control over her financial and personal affairs.
Britney also revealed that she was banned from maintaining the look due to the conservatorship, writing: ‘Under the conservatorship I was told that those days were now over.
‘I had to grow my hair and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and took the medication I was supposed to take.”
Britney also spoke about that 13-year conservatorship when she detailed how her father “controlled her body and her money” and “hurt her” with “fat” swear words.
