‘I wasted two hours of my life watching an Elton John concert’: Britney Spears fans were devastated after she failed to appear at Glastonbury despite ‘dropping hints’
Elton John’s performance at Glastonbury has been hailed as one of the greatest headline acts of all time after he thrilled the crowd on Sunday night.
Still, not everyone was pleased with the performance, with fans of Britney Spears left devastated after she failed to appear despite rumors that she would duet with Elton.
Britney previously joined forces with Elton on their 2022 track Hold Me Closer, her first song since finishing conservatory at 13, and fans were convinced she would come to Worthy Farm to perform the single.
However, it was The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers who appeared to be singing the duet, as one of four special guests Elton had teased.
The other surprise guests were Jacob Lusk of Gabriels and The London Community Gospel Choir who Are You Ready For Love? performed; Stephen Sanchez who sang until I found you and Brit-nominated singer Rina Sawayama, who performed Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.

Some viewers took to Twitter during the act and confessed that they only tuned in to watch Britney and that they had “wasted” time watching Elton’s show.
Fans shared, “I really thought Britney would join Elton John on stage. #Glastonbury’; “I just spent 2 hours of Elton John waiting for britney spears, to no avail. Sad and disappointed’; ‘dua lipa and britney don’t show up on elton’s glastonbury set???’
‘I lose the plot if Britney performs with Elton tonight’; “Listen, I love Britney with all my heart, but the idea that ‘she can’t show up with Elton to do Hold Me Closer on Glasto because she wouldn’t have had time to rehearse’ is so funny, because what rehearsal? It’s Britney she would walk on, lip sync her verse, jump on the spot and go.’;
‘Pity the pop girl fans who were hoping to see Britney and Dua perform with Elton at Glastonbury. Still, at least there’s Kylie at Manchester Pride to look forward to’; “Little glad she wasn’t performing with Elton tonight, her comeback performance should be all Britney”; “Elton brings Rina and 2 random men on stage and not the pop princess Britney Spears?”
Last month, fans were convinced that Britney would head to the UK after she ‘dropped a hint’ about the upcoming Glastonbury show.
The Baby One More Time hitmaker, 41, took to social media and uploaded a photo of an apple carved into what appears to be the flag of St George’s.
Plus, she captioned the post with three Union Jack emojis, no doubt sending the rumor mills further into overdrive.
The star also shared a portrait of a McDonalds meal alongside more Union Jack flags, further teasing the collaboration.

Despite Britney fans being disappointed, Sir Elton’s final performance of his latest UK tour was hailed by fans as the ‘best Glastonbury headliner ever’ as he closed the show on Sunday night.
The superstar singer, 76, took to Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage in tears for the final UK show of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
After hundreds of thousands gathered at Worthy Farm and millions tuned in to see Elton’s final farewell, fans have hailed the performance as a triumph.
One person said that after promising to perform “hit after hit,” Elton finally did it during his two-hour set.
The ‘life-affirming’ set was watched by his husband David Furnish and their children, as well as celebrity friends including David Walliams and the Spice Girls, who were reportedly set to join him for a glitzy post-show after-party.
Stars like Paul McCartney, Taron Egerton and Andrew Garfield were also spotted backstage watching the show before attending Elton’s bash.
