Britney Spears’ ex-husband Jason Alexander hits back at her claims they only married because she was drunk and bored: ‘We were in love!’

Britney Spears’ ex-husband Jason Alexander has refuted her claims that they only got married because she was “very drunk” and “bored with her life.”

The American actor and comedian, 64, has insisted the couple were ‘very much in love’ and had not been drinking before tying the knot in Vegas in 2004.

The former couple, who were childhood friends, were married for only 55 hours before receiving a marriage annulment.

In her new memoir, The Woman In Me, Britney, now 42, describes getting drunk in Sin City during a New Year’s trip with her friend Paris Hilton, among others.

She wrote: ‘He and I got sh**-faced. I can’t remember the night at all, but from what I pieced together, he and I lounged around the hotel room and stayed up late watching movies – Mona Lisa Smile and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre – and then had the brilliant idea to go to A small white chapel at half past three in the morning.’

Britney added, “People have asked me if I loved him. To be clear, he and I were not in love. To be honest, I was just very drunk – and probably, in a more general sense, at that point in my life, very bored.”

However, since the publication of her autobiography, Jason has responded to her claims, insisting that they were not drinking, as their officiant also described it.

Jason told me TMZ, that he still loves and cares for Britney, but will only accept a signed copy of her book so he can sell it to the highest bidder.

The marriage, which took place on January 3, 2004 at A Little White Wedding Chapel, was annulled three days later on January 5.

Britney detailed her family’s reaction to her Vegas wedding, which she called “harmless fun.”

She said: ‘They made too big a deal out of innocent fun. Everyone has a different view on it, but I didn’t take it seriously.’

Adding, “Everyone has a different perspective on it, but I didn’t take it that seriously. I thought a crazy Vegas wedding was something people would do as a joke.”

‘Then my family came and acted as if I had started World War III. “I cried the rest of the time I was in Las Vegas,” the star said.

Britney added that her family was “so against the wedding” that she “began to think maybe I had accidentally committed an act of brilliance.”

She said: ‘Because I realized: something about the fact that I was under their control and not having a stronger bond with anyone else had become very, very important to them… Maybe it’s worth mentioning that I supported them financially at this point.’

In 2008 – four years after her wedding in Vegas – Britney was placed under guardianship for fourteen years – until a judge ended it in 2021.

In 2022, Jason tried to crash Britney’s wedding to Sam Asghari while livestreaming his attempt on Instagram.

He was convicted of assault and aggravated trespass over the incident, which happened almost 20 years after their marriage.

This was reported in August by TMZ that Jason was arrested Wednesday in Tennessee on stalking charges. He allegedly followed a woman repeatedly at a gym she attended.

Legal documents alleged he followed the woman to the parking lot of a Life Time Fitness gym in Franklin, Tennessee, near Nashville, on June 17.

The woman reportedly asked him to leave her alone, but his attempts to get close to her appear to have only escalated from then on.

Alexander reportedly sent her numerous text messages, and he also tried to call her repeatedly.
