British yoga teacher Amor Armitage tells of her brush with death

A British yoga instructor has miraculously survived horrific injuries caused by a ship’s propeller while on a luxury vacation in Mexico.

Amor Armitage, 37, was left fighting for her life after the near-fatal accident while on a diving trip with her husband Chase.

Last night he revealed that doctors told him a “miraculous” two-inch blood clot in his artery prevented him from bleeding to death. He is now recovering in a hospital on the Caribbean island of Cozumel, while Chase, 37, desperately tries to raise more than £60,000 to cover medical bills and get Amor back to the UK.

The incident occurred two weeks ago after Amor flew to Cozumel to meet her stuntman husband of five years, who had been working on an American film set. After their Cozumel vacation, the couple planned another two weeks touring Florida before heading back to Basingstoke to ring in the New Year.

She wrote: ‘I felt a bit chilly and decided to head to the boat to warm up. I swam to the boat ladder, there was music on the boat, and the captain was not looking my way.

“When I grab onto the ladder, I pull out a fin, the captain doesn’t see me, suddenly I realize the boat has started to move and I can’t say anything, words just don’t come out.

“Everything seems to slow down when I feel the boat’s propeller hitting my abdomen, genitals and legs, my body feels heavy and I see the boat moving away from me.

“From my gut comes a visceral scream, for help, the captain sees me but I know I have to swim to the boat, so with cuts all over my body I managed to swim to the ladder once more.”

‘He tells me I have to go upstairs, I looked down and saw myself from the inside out, I feel like there’s no chance I can get up by myself.’

Amor said that she was afraid of dying at that moment, but her husband's words of love kept her on her feet.

Amor said, ‘God must have been holding me’ as he managed to drag his broken body onto the deck.

She added: ‘My body feels mutilated and I feel pain that is out of this world… Once I manage to get up, the captain helps me place my body on the ground and I start to shake, he calls the dive team and Chase arrives. .’

Amor said that she was afraid of dying at that moment, but her husband’s loving words kept her on her feet. She added: “He did everything he could to keep me with him and I really feel like if it wasn’t for my angel Chase I wouldn’t be here today.”

Speaking from the hospital last night, Chase said he had been diving eight meters underwater and resurfaced to hear his wife’s blood-curdling screams.

She was lying on the deck with her abdomen open. They were incredible injuries and she had no idea how she could survive them,” she told The Mail on Sunday.

He added: “I just got rid of the heavy scuba gear and hugged her as best I could.” You hear people talk about soul mates, and Amor and I are those soul mates. We are quite spiritual people, we feel very connected.

“I told her that I would not let her go, that we were very strong together, that the world needed her and that it was not time for her to leave. And that she had shown that she was a miracle by staying alive.

But it wasn’t even about the words. The love we have is powerful enough. She also has a positive mindset and despite the situation she faced, that helped her a lot.’

After being brought ashore to an ambulance, Amor was taken to the intensive care unit at the International Hospital of Cozumel.

A four-hour operation followed to reconstruct and reattach Amor’s bones and tendons. She also underwent surgery on her inner thigh that had been ‘completely turned out’.

There was relief when it was learned that the propeller had not severed any organs.

Amor said: “It appears that during the accident, I had a blood clot in the femoral artery which prevented me from losing too much blood both during transport to the hospital and during surgery.”

“Without him, I would have lost a lot of blood.”

He underwent a second operation to remove the blood clot and reroute the severed artery using a vein taken from his other leg.

Amor has also been receiving daily treatment in a hyperbaric chamber, which increases the oxygen levels in his blood to help speed up the healing process. Although she continues to take pain medication and is unable to move her left leg properly, Amor’s toes have felt something again and there is hope that she can make a full recovery.

Authorities will carry out an internal investigation into the incident, according to a source from the Cozumel Port Authority.

Now Chase has put his prized Porsche Spyder 981 sports car up for sale and is trying to raise more funds with online donations. The couple have said that hospital bills now exceed £60,000.

The couple, who got married in 2017, are popular on social media, keeping thousands of followers up to date on their glamorous lifestyle and wellness tips.

Chase, who rose to fame as a parkour street racer, has 75,000 followers on Instagram. Amor, originally from Chile, runs a yoga studio in Hampshire and has 16,000 followers. On her blog, she thanked supporters for “supportive messages, comments and audio from people who love me.”

She added: “Now I can clearly see the angels on Earth and I am so thankful.”

Chase said the amount of support they’ve received from people online in recent days has been overwhelming, adding: “To be honest, our message to people is not, ‘How can you help us pay for all this?’ We want to thank you.” for your prayers and support.

‘If Love has a message, it is for all of us to treasure each day and enjoy the present. Because that’s all we have.

And of course, be careful with the big boats.
