British woman reveals terrifying reason she locked herself in her car in Outback Australia – as she shares dire warning for travellers

A young British tourist is warning travellers to be careful when travelling through Australia’s Outback after she shared a ‘horrifying story’ about her friend’s experience.

In a TikTok post titled “PSA for anyone planning a road trip around Australia,” Ash said she took extra care when visiting a remote part of Western Australia.

Ash told live to camera how a friend stopped at a gas station in Fitzroy Crossing, a small town in the Kimberley region, 400km east of Broome.

Ash said her friend was waiting in the car while her partner went to pay, ‘then a kid came to the window and tried to break into the car’.

“We’re being super careful and I literally locked myself in the car,” Ash said of the story, holding the keys up to the camera.

“But it’s so bad that everyone we’ve spoken to has said if you’re travelling from Broome-Derby all the way to Darwin you have to be very careful if you stop anywhere.”

Fitzroy Crossing is a popular stopover destination as it is one of two towns on the busy 1,000km stretch of highway between Broome and Kununurra.

Social media users reported that they have not encountered any problems in the region, although they are being extremely cautious.

“Wow, Halls Creek was really scary to drive through,” someone wrote.

“I’m so glad you didn’t have any problems, especially since you were traveling all alone!” Ash replied.

‘We ended up driving from Derby to Kununurra in one go for about 11 hours!’ she wrote.

Ash replied to another comment: ‘Luckily we haven’t had any problems, but it’s good to be careful.’

Earlier this year, major violence broke out in Halls Creek, a three-hour drive from Fitzroy Crossing.

Police were called to the scene and found approximately 40 people fighting.

According to Western Australia police, some were armed with knives, stones, sticks, metal bars and bricks.

Officers broke up the brawl after sending reinforcements from Broome, Kununurra and Fitzroy Crossing.

Liquor stores in Halls Creek were forced to close to combat alcohol-related violence.

The troubled town has become notorious as a hotspot for crime.

In 2022, unruly teenagers stole cars, vandalised property and caused chaos on the streets of Halls Creek, leaving residents too afraid to leave their homes.
