British woman, 40, is one of three killed as ‘many children’ injured when van carrying British family of seven hits two other vehicles in horrific collision in France

Members of a British family of seven are among those killed and injured in a horror crash in northern France.
At least three people were killed in the collision on the A26 motorway south of Lens on Sunday evening, including a woman from the UK.
“Three dead and dozens injured, many of them children,” said a spokesman for the local emergency services.
A van carrying a British family of seven was one of three vehicles involved in the crash.
A 40-year-old British woman was killed instantly, along with two others traveling in another vehicle.
“The other passengers – aged between six and 48 – have been taken to hospital in Cambrai and Arras.”

The source said some survivors were in intensive care in a “life-threatening position” on Monday morning.
The accident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. on Sunday on a section of the highway where roadworks were underway, between the towns of Neuville-Saint-Vaast and Thélus.
Four people, a 75-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were also killed in a second vehicle.
The other two passengers in this car were a 14-year-old boy and a 79-year-old man who were in ‘critical condition’.
The third vehicle involved was a car with four occupants, including three children, between the ages of six and 33.
The section of the A26 motorway was closed late into the night on Saturday as six emergency medical services were on site.
About 60 firefighters were also sent to the crash site to try to save the victims.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
The incident took place at the height of the holiday season, as thousands of British drivers were crossing the Channel.
