A British tourist has been criticized for carelessness after he was bitten by a venomous snake while walking barefoot through tall grass.

Ben and his partner were vacationing on Fraser Island in Queensland and they rented a car for some off-road driving.

It revealed that the vacation was off to a good start before turning into a deadly nightmare after the first night.

A British tourist was rushed to hospital by air ambulance after being bitten by a snake

He has been criticized as sloppy after he was bitten by a snake while walking barefoot through tall grass.

‘Right, I just got bitten by a poisonous snake in Australia. Quick story time for you,’ she said in a TikTok video.

The couple were traveling along a beach in their pink 4×4 when they decided to camp along the shoreline for the night.

“We managed to share camp with a couple of dingoes and some crabs,” said Ben.

The couple woke up early the next morning to watch the sunrise as Ben used his drone to capture images of the surrounding landscape.

He crashed the remote control device into a tree growing on top of a sand dune that was covered in tall grass.

“I had to walk back through this patch of grass and I stepped on something dark and felt something hit my ankle,” he said.

Ben brought his right foot closer to the camera, revealing two puncture wounds on his ankle, believed to be from a brown snake.

“I went back to the truck, saw the fang marks, and then realized what had happened. We had no signal,” she said.

He bandaged his leg and was whisked to the beach by a passing tourist when he was finally able to get phone reception.

Moments later a helicopter is seen on the video approaching and picking up the injured tourist.

The man is believed to have stepped on a highly venomous eastern brown snake

Ben and his partner were vacationing on Fraser Island in Queensland and they rented a car for some off-road driving.

“Not bad though, I got a free helicopter tour of Fraser Island,” Ben said.

Ben is then seen lying in a hospital bed and hooked up to monitoring machines, and the recovering expat appears to still be in good spirits.

“I’m currently waiting on a blood test and yes, welcome to fucking Australia,” he said.

Social media users criticized the tourist for walking through tall grass.

“From an Australian: don’t walk in the bushes,” wrote one.

“Bare feet in the cities, boots in the brush,” added another.

“This could have been easily prevented.”

Others took issue with the part of the video when Ben bandaged his injured ankle and then lifted him up in the car while the Good Samaritan was driving.

“First things mate never lift your leg if you get bitten you can spread the poison all over the store,” wrote a third social media user.

WHAT IS AN EASTERN BROWN SNAKE?

  • Fast-moving, highly aggressive, and famous for his short temper.
  • Along with other brown snakes, the eastern brown is responsible for more deaths each year in Australia than any other group of snakes.
  • Its venom is ranked the second most toxic of any terrestrial snake in the world behind another Australian snake, the inland taipan.
  • They thrive in areas populated with many of their main mice of prey, making farms and urban centers ideal habitats.
  • If cornered or confronted, the eastern brown raises its body, forms an ‘S’ and strikes, as shown in the video above.
  • Its venom causes paralysis and prevents blood from clotting, causing its victim to bleed to death.
  • It can take many doses of antidote to reverse its effects, and victims can collapse within a few minutes.
