British tourist ‘raped and robbed on Magaluf beach by street vendor after being separated from friends’

Police are investigating the rape of a British tourist on a beach in Magaluf.

The suspect is an African street vendor who allegedly took advantage of his victim’s drunken state when he found her lying alone on the street in the resort’s busy Punta Ballena party street after she had been separated from her friends.

He is said to have picked her up and carried her to the beach, where he raped her and then stole her mobile phone, the respected newspaper Ultima Hora reported today.

The holidaymaker, whose age is unknown and who reportedly had little recollection of what happened, alerted police a few hours later.

The investigation is currently being carried out by the Guardia Civil, who are analysing surveillance cameras to identify the suspect.

The sexual assault occurred around 4 a.m. on July 24, but was only recently made public.

On Sunday it was reported that a British tourist received help from police after she claimed she had been raped and robbed on a beach in Mallorca.

The 30-year-old told detectives she had arranged to go to the beach in Palma, the island’s capital, with a man she had met and eventually arranged to have sex. However, on Thursday morning a second man arrived on the scene and forced himself on her.

They then ran off with her belongings, the holidaymaker said.

According to local reports, she had accepted an offer of “free drugs” from the police officer she met while walking through Palma, before heading to the beach with him.

She was taken to hospital for a routine medical check-up and was said to be ‘visibly affected’ and in ‘shock’ before flying back to London.

In April last year, an Italian man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 38-year-old British woman on a beach near Magaluf after luring her from a nearby bar.

The 20-year-old was arrested after the victim complained that he had forced himself on her after a night out in Palmanova, which is adjacent to the famous party resort.

A spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Mallorca said at the time: ‘The Guardia Civil in Calvia has arrested a 20-year-old Italian man on suspicion of involvement in a crime of sexual abuse against a 38-year-old woman.

‘Last week, the alleged victim and the suspect met in a bar in Palmanova.

‘When the bar closed, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the woman’s disoriented state due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed by taking her to the beach and raping her.

‘Officers launched an investigation and were able to identify and locate the alleged perpetrator.’

Court officials were unavailable this morning for comment on the investigation that the judge launched at the time.
