The 21-year-old alerted police after the incident on the street in the early morning of August 7 in Port d’Andratx on the west coast of the island.

Overnight it was announced that detectives had arrested a 40-year-old Senegalese man.

He owns a fishing boat moored in the harbour, near the bar where she had been drinking that night. He allegedly sexually assaulted the British holidaymaker after speaking to her briefly and ‘taking advantage’ of her drunken state.

The island’s Ultima Hora newspaper refers to him only by his initials – nonsense – and reports that police have arrested him in the past for drug trafficking.

He was released on bail pending an ongoing criminal investigation after appearing before a judge in a closed court hearing.

Police in Magaluf are reportedly still searching for another Senegalese man accused of raping a British tourist on the beach on July 24.

The suspect is an African street vendor who allegedly took advantage of his victim’s drunken state when he found her lying alone on the street in the resort’s busy Punta Ballena party street after she had been separated from her friends.

The tourist also stated that he stole her phone.

On August 4, it was revealed that a British tourist had received police help after she claimed she had been raped and robbed on a beach in Mallorca.

The 30-year-old told detectives she had arranged to go to the beach in Palma, the island’s capital, with a man she had met and eventually arranged to have sex. However, on Thursday morning a second man arrived on the scene and forced himself on her.

They then ran off with her belongings, the holidaymaker said.

According to local reports, she had accepted an offer of “free drugs” from the man she met while walking in Palma, before heading to the beach with him.

She was taken to hospital for a routine medical check-up and was said to be ‘visibly affected’ and in ‘shock’ before flying back to London.

In April last year, an Italian man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 38-year-old British woman on a beach near Magaluf after luring her from a nearby bar.

The 20-year-old was arrested after the victim complained that he had forced himself on her after a night out in Palmanova, which is adjacent to the famous party resort.

A spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Mallorca said at the time: ‘The Guardia Civil in Calvia has arrested a 20-year-old Italian man on suspicion of involvement in a crime of sexual abuse against a 38-year-old woman.

‘Last week, the alleged victim and the suspect met in a bar in Palmanova.

‘When the bar closed, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the woman’s disoriented state due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed by taking her to the beach and raping her.

‘Officers launched an investigation and were able to identify and locate the alleged perpetrator.’

Court officials were unavailable this morning for comment on the investigation that the judge launched at the time.
