British three-year-old drowns after falling into a swimming pool in Spain
A British child has drowned after falling into a swimming pool on Spain’s Costa del Sol.
Emergency workers tried to save the three-year-old girl after receiving a distress call around noon today, but they were unable to do anything to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A routine police investigation into the tragedy has been launched, although there is nothing at this stage to suggest the youngster’s death was anything but an accident.
The country house where the drama unfolded is located near the Costa del Sol, between the coastal town of Torrox and the inland town of Sayalonga, in an area known as Pago de Montealegre.
It has not yet been confirmed whether she was holidaying at the house with her parents or living on the property, although a local report described it as the family home and said the youngster had two older siblings who attended a local school.
After police were called, a Local-061 paramedic emergency helicopter was dispatched to the scene

Well-placed sources said they were looking into the possibility that the girl fell into the pool after wandering outside without her mother and father realizing.
Torrox mayor Oscar Medina described the girl’s death as a “tragic incident”, adding: “I express my sincere and profound condolences to the family on behalf of all local residents.”
A spokesperson for a regional government-run emergency coordination center said: ‘Today a three-year-old girl died in a swimming pool in the Torrox area of Malaga province.
“We received a call at 12.04pm today alerting us that a minor had been recovered from a swimming pool in a property between Torrox and Sayalonga and efforts were being made to resuscitate her.
‘Emergency services were immediately activated. A helicopter was mobilized, along with the Civil Guard, and the local town hall employed police and health workers.
‘They later confirmed that the little girl had died without providing further details of the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.’
