Revealed: The British royal that spent the most money on clothes in 2024 – and it’s not Kate or Meghan
New research has revealed which British royal family will spend the most on clothes in 2024, with a surprise member of The Firm coming out on top.
Style blog UFO no more recently analyzed the wardrobes of twenty royal women across Europe and then ranked them from most to least expensive.
The royals on their list included Princess Charlene of Monaco, the Princess of Wales, the Duchess of Edinburgh, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Spain’s Queen Letizia, the Duchess of Sussex and Princess Beatrice.
Considering only new garments, the royal guards divided them into three categories: unidentified pieces, identified pieces with known costs, and pieces where the designer is known but the price is not.
According to their data, Princess Charlene, 46, spent the most money on new clothes in 2024, with UFO estimating the cost of her wardrobe at almost £300,000 (€354,588).
Although Princess Charlene’s collection was considered the most expensive among her European counterparts, a member of the British royal family was not far behind the Monegasque princess.
Sophie ranked higher than both Meghan and Zara Tindall, finishing in fourth place after it emerged she had ‘spent’ £135,863 (€163,664) on the 105 new clothes she wore last year.
Close behind her was Princess Anne’s stylish daughter Zara, 43, who is believed to have invested in 109 new pieces of clothing totaling £106,168 (€127,984).

MailOnline recently calculated that Meghan will have spent over £100,000 on new clothes and jewelery in 2024
The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, was sixth on the list after MailOnline revealed she spent more than £100,000 on never-before-seen clothes and jewelery during 56 public appearances last year.
Meanwhile, Princess Beatrice, who spent just over £44,000 (€53,297) on 57 new items of clothing, came in 15th place – three places ahead of her sister Princess Eugenie.
The total cost of Eugenie’s new clothes in 2024 was £27,427 (€33,069), while the Princess of Wales – who retired from public life to undergo chemotherapy for an unknown form of cancer – spent just over £10,000 (€12,977) spent.
Since Sophie was given the title Duchess of Edinburgh in March 2023, her style has changed dramatically, with the mother-of-two turning to Kate for fashion inspiration.
Over the years, Sophie has developed a taste for muted tones, floral prints and matching designer fashion items, which has translated into a slew of sartorial victories for the royal family.
She was the epitome of elegance at the 2023 Royal Ascot when Sophie wore Suzannah London’s ‘Allison’ dress, which featured a 1940s-inspired fit-and-flare silhouette and a stunning bow-effect neckline.
She embraced utilitarian chic during a visit to the Charfleet Book Bindery on Canvey Island in June 2023, with Sophie choosing to wear an army green trench dress from Kate’s favorite designer Alexander McQueen.
Known as the royal family’s ‘secret weapon’, Sophie delivered a series of eye-catching outfits in 2024 – including her chic ensemble for the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May, when she expertly paired her Aspiga ‘Victoria’ corduroy dress with her Paige ‘Tawni’ jacket.

Meanwhile, celebrity stylist Alex Longmore named Princess Anne’s daughter Zara the best-dressed British royal in 2024.
She told MailOnline: ‘Zara’s style has gone stratospheric in the past year. She always looks great.
‘She has a style formula and sticks to it. For royal occasions she opts for tea dresses with a belt, in bright colors, often with striking sleeves.
“She looks beautiful, a far cry from riding breeches and mucking out stuff!”
One of the equestrian’s standout looks of 2024 was the burgundy trouser suit she chose for Kate’s comeback Christmas carols concert at Westminster Abbey last month.
Among Europe’s royal ladies, Princess Sofia of Sweden also spent money on a new wardrobe with 97 new pieces reportedly costing a total of £101,562 (€122,452).
Her sister-in-law and Prince Carl Philip’s wife, Crown Princess Victoria, bought new clothes worth almost £68,000 (€81,717).
Twelfth on the list was Queen Maxima of the Netherlands after the value of her clothes was estimated at around £50,000 (€59,726), followed by Queen Letizia of Spain and Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit.
It was estimated that the 20 royal women will have spent more than £1.65 million on 1,488 new items by 2024.
