A British man is fighting for his life after being stabbed at Oktoberfest in Germany.

The tourist, 35, has been left critically injured and requiring emergency surgery after suffering a stab wound in Munich as the famous festival got underway on September 17.

Two 18-year-old men were arrested by Germany police in the city today in connection with the stabbing.

One of the teenagers has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder, while the second is being held on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

Officers have carried out searches of five residential properties within Munich as part of efforts to find the weapon.

Police believe the stabbing is linked to an errant drug deal, according to German media outlet br.de.

It is understood the British man suffered a stab wound to his upper body after being robbed of hundreds of euros, the report adds.

The two suspects are said to have ran away the scene after robbing the alleged victim.

It comes as the famous beer festival has returned after a Covid-enforced hiatus.

It’s estimated up to six million people will make their way to Munich for the event – which runs until October 3 – based on previous annual celebrations.
