A frustrated Dan Evans was defeated by Thanasi Kokkinakis in straight sets in the opening round of the French Open.

Evans finally won his first match at Roland Garros last year but couldn’t get the same result here, as he lost 6-4 6-4 6-4 to the mighty Australian in hot and brisk conditions.

The British runner-up appeared to have turned the game around in the second set as he led 4-1, but at 30-0 in the next game he was fouled as his foot went over the center line.

Evans promptly lost four points in a row, smashing his water bottle on the floor in exasperation, and did not win another game in the set as the match slipped away.
