British motorcyclist, 49, dies after French motorist ‘fails to give way’ and crashes into group he was riding through France

A British motorcyclist died on Friday after being hit by a car while cycling with friends in France.

The 49-year-old victim, not yet named by French authorities, was driving with his two compatriots through the commune of Gael, 48 kilometers west of Rennes, when a French driver, 52, entered the road.

Two motorcycles narrowly missed the vehicle but crashed into the third, causing the unsuspecting rider to flee from Wokingham.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, with firefighters and an air ambulance dispatched to the scene just outside Gael.

But the rider was pronounced dead at the scene, such was the severity of the crash.

The 49-year-old victim, not yet named by French authorities, was driving with his two compatriots through the municipality of Gael, 48 kilometers west of Rennes.

Local prosecutors have opened an investigation into the incident but say it is being treated as an accident, according to French media reports.

Two days after that tragic accident, a 60-year-old British cyclist died while cycling through the town of Menerval in Normandy.

He was cycling along departmental road 130 just before noon when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest actu.fr.

Emergency services arrived on the scene again and tried to resuscitate the cyclist, but to no avail.

He was also pronounced dead at the scene, which was attended by the deputy mayor and other officials, Seine-Maritime emergency services said.

Officials said the victim was of “English nationality” but have not yet released any further details.
