A British mother-of-three has been left with life-changing injuries after a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road in Alicante crashed into her.
Dawn Maher, 50, was hospitalized after a serious accident while driving to pick up her friend from Alicante airport earlier this month.
She collided with a car that started driving into oncoming traffic in the wrong lane of the N332 and was taken to Vega Baja Hospital.
The rescue worker, originally from Stockport, suffered ‘numerous fractures and fractures including her neck which will be in a brace for months, left arm and ribs’, according to a GoFundMe set up by her husband Stephen, 59.
Additionally, both of Dawn’s legs were broken in multiple places after the crash, which Stephen said Spanish police “confirmed that Dawn was an innocent victim.”

While she was in critical condition for several days, she is now awake and can breathe without the assistance of a ventilator.
“Thank God all her internal organs are fine and her brain is completely fine,” Stephen wrote.
Stephen wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday that she can now wiggle her toes, despite having undergone major surgery.
Still, he said he’s concerned about how long her recovery will take.
“We have no idea how long her recovery will take or what her life will be like with the damage to her legs, but we do know it will be a long road,” Stephen wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Stephen and his family, including children Chelsea, 31, Jake, 29, and Robyn, 25, moved to Alicante in 2017 after losing all three of their remaining parents in the space of a year.
Dawn was planning to celebrate her 50th birthday in the southeastern Spanish city she has called home for several years and was going to invite her childhood friends to a party before her tragic crash.
The GoFundMe they set up to help with their finances has already exceeded their £10,500 target, with the help of 241 backers.
One generous donor sent the couple £1,000 to help them get over the shock.
