British mother killed in head-on crash in Ibiza which left her daughter, 6, seriously injured

Tribute has been paid to a British woman who died in an accident in Ibiza, which seriously injured her six-year-old daughter.

Sommer Amari, 42, died at the scene of the head-on collision and her daughter Betty was admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital on the island due to the severity of her injuries before being flown to a hospital in Mallorca.

She was said to be serious but stable today at Son Espases Hospital in Palma with her father by her side.

Nick Purt, owner of a carpentry business in Ibiza, had announced his engagement to Kingston University-educated Sommer on social media on Christmas Day last year, writing: ‘So happy to be engaged to my love Sommer Amari. I can’t believe she said yes.’

A friend who organized an online fundraiser early this morning for the late woman’s daughter and partner, who had already raised more than €50,000 of his £500 goal, said: “It is with a heavy heart that we bring you the news that our good friend Sommer died on Wednesday evening in a collision on the road from Santa Gertrudis to Ibiza.

“It was an accident where someone went head-on into her and she died on the spot after they tried to save her.

‘Betty, her daughter, is in Son Espases Hospital in Palma after flying over with her father Nick.

“Nick wasn’t with them at the time. She has had surgery on her skull and is currently recovering. She has some internal damage and a broken leg but we are praying she will be ok.

Please keep her in your thoughts and pray for her. Send Nick lots of love and all family and friends who are devastated by this news. We are all heartbroken.

“This fundraiser is to help Nick and Betty through this incredibly difficult time. The money can also be used for travel and if needed from Palma and to ease the stress and financial burden in the coming months.

“Every donation is greatly received.

“I send all our love and strength to Nick. We want him to know that the Ibiza community is behind him and with him.’

Another friend, Colleen Wilson, wrote in an emotional Facebook post marking the GoFundMe fundraiser call, “Our hearts will be broken forever.

Sending love and strength to Betty and Nick. Tonight a daughter goes to sleep without her mother.’

Pernilla Parfit added: ‘Beyond heartbreaking. I deeply feel the loss of Sommer. She was such a ray of sunshine and her sunny personality and energy was contagious.

“I’ll miss running into her in town.

“Sending so much love to her family and friends and praying for little Betty.”

Another friend, who works as a holistic health practitioner in Ibiza, said: ‘Lost for words and shocked.

‘I can’t believe you’re gone Sommer Amari.

“So much life in you and had so much more to offer to this world with your unbeatable personality, fun, huge heart and laughter that touched everyone.”

Lucie Hutton added: ‘No words can describe what a shock the world had this morning when you weren’t in it.

“Heaven really has a party angel. Whenever I saw you gone, I knew there was no time I was going to go home.

“We have some funny stories that we can all tell so that your spirit lives on forever. Keep partying up there, our dear Sommer.’

According to local reports, Sommer died after a 40-year-old Norwegian woman lost control of her vehicle behind the wheel of a rented Toyota and crashed into a roadside guardrail before veering into the oncoming lane and hitting the tragic mother’s Ford Focus head-on.

The British expatriate, who describes herself as a private tutor on Linkedin and worked for 10 years as a primary school teacher at the fee-paying Morna International College in Ibiza’s Santa Gertrudis, was pronounced dead at the scene after firefighters extricated her body from the mutilated wreckage of her car.

Shortly after the horrific accident, Betty was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza shortly after 6.35 pm on Wednesday by an APK inspection center on the road between Ibiza and the city of Santa Gertrudis. She was transported to the hospital in Palma about four hours after her admission to the first hospital.

Police investigators confirmed this morning that they were awaiting the results of alcohol and drug tests on the unnamed Norwegian woman, who was also injured and is being treated at Can Misses Hospital.

A Civil Guard source said: “She was not breath tested at the scene, but drug and alcohol tests were done at the hospital.

‘We are still waiting for the result. It appears she caused the crash by losing control of her vehicle and colliding head-on with the Ford Focus coming the other way, driven by the British woman.

Excessive speed may be a factor, but the accident is still under investigation.

“A third car was involved, driven by a Hispanic woman, which crashed after swerving to avoid the other two cars. She was unharmed.’

A UK benefactor donated a whopping €5,000 (£4,373) to the fundraiser.

Austrian-born photographer and designer Clarisse Grumbach-Palme, another of those donating money, urged others: “We must help in this terribly sad situation. That’s the least we can do and send lots of love to the family.’

Another wrote after donating €1,000 (£875): ‘Love you Sommer. Sending all the love and strength to Betty and your family and wonderful friends.”

A school friend who also donated money said, “You were a great force of nature in school and it’s clear that you’ve continued to live your life the same way – love for all your family.”

Lesley Allen wrote of her donation, “Sommer you were one in a million. Always smiling, full of fun and a wonderful person with a heart of gold.

You will be sorely missed as you have touched the hearts of so many people. Much love to Nick, Betty and the rest of your family. Rest in peace dear Sommer, you will never be forgotten.’

Police sources insisted it was too early to say whether the Norwegian woman who drove the rental car driving Sommer’s Ford Focus would face criminal charges.

One of them said it would depend on factors such as the results of the drink and drug tests and the confirmation of the first indicators of speeding and distraction behind the wheel that are possible causes of her losing control of her car. vehicle.

Her injuries are serious and it is believed that police have not yet been able to speak to her at the hospital.

Police detectives this morning/yesterday morning (FRI) were unable to confirm local reports that Sommer Amari’s injured six-year-old daughter was pulled from the British’s wrecked Ford Focus before the first emergency services arrived.

Rola Alkurdi Hallam, founder of a humanitarian startup called CanDo, said of her boyfriend, “We lived together, broke bread together, cried together and had more fun together than you can ever do!

‘And… we supported Liverpool together!

‘Meet some of my dearest friends with you.

You have always supported me and my work. When you first told me you were moving to Ibiza, I thought you were crazy. Then I went to live with you there. I don’t understand why you were taken away.

“You personified life to the fullest. My heart is with your family – Laila, Adam and of course Nick and all your loved ones. But most of all Betty – your little angel.

“I pray for her, for you, and for all of us. May we know how precious life is, love it and live it to the fullest AND don’t forget to prepare for the next life. I love you Summer. REST IN PEACE.’
