After the fight, Brazilian star Petrino said: ‘The strategy was to put on a show. I wanted to knock him out as quickly as possible.

“I got a submission, I got a bonus, so I told my coach I wanted a knockout.”

The light heavyweight star now has a professional record of 10-0, having won his first three fights in the UFC.

In the main event of the card, Derrick Lewis suffered a unanimous defeat to Jailton Almeida on Saturday evening.

The 38-year-old was looking for a back-to-back win in the UFC heavyweight division after scoring a TKO victory over Marcos Rogério de Lima in his last fight.

However, things did not go to plan for the American, who suffered a fourth loss in his last five UFC fights after a dominant wrestle from Almeida.

The Brazilian controlled most of the fight on the ground, with his control time of 21:10 setting a new UFC heavyweight record for a single fight.

Lewis had no answer to his counterparts’ grappling and grappling skills, leading the judges to score the fight unanimously in Almeida’s favor, 50-44 50-44 50-45.
