According to local reports, a British man has been beaten to death by bouncers in Cyprus.

Huseyin Mavideniz, 29, died after being attacked early Thursday morning outside a club in Iskele, Northern Cyprus, local media said, citing police.

He was allegedly hit on the head several times by club security before being rushed to Famagusta State Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Shortly after Mavideniz arrived at the medical center, a group of men showed up and wreaked havoc by smashing the windows of the hospital’s emergency room with a sledgehammer, local reports said.

It was not immediately clear who the group was or why they attacked the hospital.

The Cyprus Mail reported that Mavideniz had “an altercation” with a 26-year-old man outside the “Breeze” bar in a town called Trikomo at around 3:30 am.

The 26-year-old man, whose name has not been released, has been arrested by the police. A man is still being sought in connection with the incident.

Deputy Chief Physician of Famagusta State Hospital, Dr. Eyüp Göksu, told Yenidüzen: “He died when he came to the hospital. The police are currently investigating. We receive detailed information from our doctors on duty.’

Another local news site, Kibris Gazetesi, said a further ten people had been arrested for “serious assault and serious harm” – likely related to the events at the hospital.

Photos from the medical center posted to Facebook showed broken glass on the floor, chairs and desks of a reception area.

The windows appear to have been smashed from the outside in.

According to the Cypriot news site Yenidüzen, a group of people prevented the outlet’s reporter from taking photos and forced them to remove others from their phones while accompanied by police.

Yenidüzen did not specify who the group was that forced the removal of the photos.

Mavideniz is said to have traveled to Cyprus with his father to receive medical treatment. The sun reported.

MailOnline has contacted the State Department for comment.

News of the British man’s death comes just two months after a 38-year-old British woman was found dead in Cyprus in the house she shared with her partner.

The woman, who has not been named, was said to have been found “with bruises all over her body,” local media said at the time.

The Cyprus Mail reported that the woman’s partner had notified local authorities of the death and an autopsy had been ordered.
