British golf professional, 25, fined £3,400 after drunkenly attacking police who tasered her friend as the pair were blocked from boarding an EasyJet flight in Malta

A British professional golfer has been fined £3,400 after she ‘drunk’ attacked police who tasered her friend after she was blocked from boarding an EasyJet flight in Malta.

Cloe May Frankish, 25, from Kent, and John Chinedu Uche, 31, from London, admitted assaulting and disobeying police, breaching the peace and being intoxicated earlier this month when they entered London International Airport Malta were.

Frankish was also accused of causing damage to a door and slightly injuring police sergeant Amanda Pickard at a Maltese court, as reported by police. Times of Malta.

A magistrate heard the commotion started when Frankish and her friend drunkenly tried to board a plane at around 9pm on June 12. When they ignored the cabin crew’s instructions, the police were called in – and reinforcements from the Rapid Intervention Unit were requested.

When the couple was taken to the airport police station, the couple allegedly behaved aggressively, leading to police tasering Uche. Prosecutors said Frankish broke a wooden door during the commotion, causing 436 euros (£369) in damage, for which she was also charged.

Uche was accused of insulting and threatening police officers during the incident and was fined €6,000 (approximately £5,100) for his involvement.

Magistrate Abigail Critien noted that both pleaded guilty to the charges against them at an early stage of the proceedings.

Frankish was ordered to pay damages and obtained a restraining order not to contact Sergeant Pickard for a year.

Both were charged with resisting arrest with violence, disobeying legitimate police orders, breaching the peace, being drunk and disorderly on a passenger aircraft and disobeying orders to disembark.

A court was told officers had to taser Uche several times and that Frankish kicked and broke property at the police station, as reported by Malta today.

A woodworking company estimated the value of the damage at €436 (£369).

Frankish allegedly told police she was pregnant, which later turned out to be untrue after a medical examination.

Police nonetheless noted that Frankish had cooperated with them after the clashes, but described Uche’s behavior as “catastrophic.”

Earlier this month it was reported that the pair initially pleaded guilty before the magistrate determined they did not appear to understand what the plea meant.

Magistrate Critien said the court was ‘not satisfied that they understood such a guilty plea’ and as such could not accept responsibility for it.

After consulting with their attorney, they changed their plea to not guilty and were detained.

The fines and damages imposed at an earlier hearing would have exceeded the combined daily withdrawal limits of all available cards.

“You have to understand that logistically we have to confirm that the payment has been made,” Critien explained.
