A British father-of-two has died on his first holiday abroad to Spain, less than a day after calling his own father to tell him how ‘wonderfully warm’ it was.
Dion Atherton, from London, “fell from a balcony” and died after being in Spain for less than a day, according to his family.
Atherton’s niece Naomi Brooks described his death as an “absolutely devastating” and “incredible” situation for his partner Leanne Colman and the entire family.
Ms Brooks said he was particularly excited about the holiday as he had missed his trip last year because his passport had not arrived on time.
The family realized that Mr. Atherton had no travel insurance, making it “extremely difficult” to get him home.

Writing GoFundMe, said Mrs Brooks: ‘The family have since discovered that travel insurance had not been taken out due to a mistake. This means that it has been made extremely difficult to bring Dion home.
“Dion had had a great life with Leanne and her two girls, and loved spending as much time as possible with his two adorable kids.
“They had a great time during their visits and will really miss their father.”
