A British father was arrested on holiday for attempted murder, but his family pleaded their innocence, saying he wasn’t even in the country at the time.
Thomas Nolan, 19, was arrested after flying to Canada with his wife Eileen Delaney and year-old son.
Toronto police charged him in June with an alleged car ram attack, despite Ms Delaney’s claims that the family did not vacation to Canada until August.
Eileen took to Facebook to share her husband’s ordeal, claiming her husband was not guilty and blaming a sinister doppelgänger for the crime.
She wrote, “We came on vacation August 1, 2023. Three days later, Thomas Nolan is beaten and arrested in Canada and charged with attempted murder.

Nolan’s arrest follows an alleged incident near the Scotiabank Arena, home of NBA side Toronto Raptors. Investigators say they were called to a “fail-to-remain bodily injury collision” following a physical altercation at 11:30 p.m. local time on June 27. “He is accused of something that happened on June 27. Thomas was not in Canada on these dates.’
The arrest follows an alleged incident near the Scotiabank Arena, home of NBA side Toronto Raptors.
Investigators say they were called to a “fail-to-remain bodily injury collision” following a physical altercation at 11:30 p.m. local time on June 27.
“The suspect got into a black, older-model pickup and drove onto the sidewalk,” police said in a press release at the time.
“The suspect hit the victim from behind while he was riding on the sidewalk.”
In a fit of rage, the suspect then flipped the truck and ran down the sidewalk at high speed before fleeing the scene, it was alleged.
The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have described the suspect as 6 feet tall and with short curly hair. He drove a black 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with Ontario registration plate BV68520.
The arrest was confirmed to The Sun, a Toronto police spokeswoman said, “He was arrested on August 3, 2023. I cannot go into detail about the investigation as it is being conducted at the court.
“For court information, you must contact the court.”
Nolan’s wife suspects he is being targeted because he is a member of the Irish travel community.

Nolan has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a mode of transportation resulting in bodily harm.
