British couple are stabbed in the back and legs along with a third victim in Morocco tourist spot knife attack: Police probe whether attack is terror related

Two British tourists have been injured in a triple stabbing on a boulevard in the Moroccan tourist town of Agadir.

The knifeman ran into the sea and attempted to thwart his arrest by swimming away from the scene before being caught and taken into custody.

The Spanish newspaper La Razon reports that the police are investigating whether the incident is terrorism-related.

The 33-year-old suspect was reportedly jailed three years ago for drug trafficking.

The British holidaymakers have been described as a couple and the third victim is a Moroccan woman living in Belgium.

The man and two women, who reportedly suffered injuries to their legs and back, were taken to Hassan II Hospital in Agadir.

The horror incident took place around noon yesterday on the promenade in Agadir, an international seaside resort on Morocco's southern Atlantic coast, known for its golf courses and wide crescent-shaped beach.

The boulevard is lined with cafes, restaurants and bars.

Well-placed sources told the Moroccan press last night that the motive behind the knife attack was still under investigation and that the suspect remains in police custody.

Two of the victims have been released after treatment, but the third victim, whose nationality has not been disclosed, remains in hospital.
