A British climber has been taken to hospital with ‘severe injuries’ after falling more than 9 metres.

The 80-year-old is said to have suffered multiple injuries, including head injuries, in the accident near the village of Murla, a half-hour drive inland from the town of Moraira on the Costa Blanca.

An air ambulance helped take him to Doctor Balmis Hospital in Alicante after he was stabilized at the scene.

The alarm was raised just before 2 p.m. yesterday.

Firefighters and the emergency helicopter that eventually transported him from the accident scene were mobilized as part of the emergency response.

This morning it was not immediately clear whether the injured man had been with someone else at the time and what his current condition is.

A spokesman for the Alicante fire brigade said: ‘Our rescue team assisted in the rescue of an 80-year-old British climber in Murla.

‘He suffered multiple injuries after a 10-metre fall.

‘He was taken to a fire station in Denia, where an ambulance was ready to take him to hospital.’
