British boxer left needing oxygen mask after being KO’d in first round of his professional debut by opponent who took fight on 24 hours notice

British boxer Hasnan Ali needed an oxygen mask after being knocked out during his professional debut.

The 22-year-old is tipped as a promising prospect and was scheduled for Charlie Edwards’ victory over Thomas Essomba on Friday.

He had sold over 300 tickets and was expected to defeat Tommy Sams, who entered the fight on 24 hours notice.

However, Sams came out swinging in the first round and caught Ali a number of times, causing the former’s legs to wobble.

He failed to regain his composure and the referee eventually waved off the fight to send shockwaves through the arena.

Hasnan was then treated by medics and required an oxygen mask after his shock defeat

Ali, who looked stunned, returned to his corner and was attended to by medics who treated him with an oxygen mask.

The youngster is now in good condition as he was eventually able to get back on his feet and return to the dressing room.

Sams revealed afterwards that he had not prepared for the fight as he was offered it after returning from work a day earlier.

He said: ‘It rained all day, I finished work, got home at 2.30pm and got a phone call. I said yes, I’ll take it.

‘I definitely came for the win. I saw his hands go low so I could see if he could take it [the power].

‘I’m buzzing, I feel minty, so proud.’
