British angler catches the world’s biggest GOLDFISH at 61lb 4oz

A British man has caught a carp that has been dubbed the ‘world’s largest goldfish’, weighing in at a whopping 62 pounds.

Angler Lee Parker was fishing at Bluewater Lakes in France when he caught the sought-after ‘Carrot’, one of the most famous ornamental fish.

The Brit almost took more hay on his plate after he was nearly dragged into the lake by the giant goldfish.

Mr Parker, from Banbury in Oxford, said it was a fast process as he had to hold on tightly to his rod.

He also described how he was forced to dig his heels into the shore of the lake to avoid being dragged back into the water.

After a struggle of almost ten minutes, he managed to get the goldfish into his landing net and pull it to the shore.

He then weighed it and took pictures, before safely lowering the goldfish back into the water to be used again the next day.

The monster is far too large to fit in a normal fish bowl, measuring a whopping four feet long.

The giant orange specimen, rightly nicknamed The Carrot, is a hybrid species of a leatherback carp and a koi carp, which are traditionally orange.

The root is believed to be over 20 years old and was released as a young specimen into the lake of the French fishery of the Briton Jason Cowler.

But over the years it has become apparent that it is a difficult fish to catch and is rarely seen out of the water.

Fishery manager Jason Cowler said: ‘We launched The Carrot about 20 years ago as something different for customers to fish for. Since then it’s grown and grown but it doesn’t come out very often. She’s very elusive.

“She is in excellent health and condition. Congratulations Andy on a great catch.”
