British Airways has canceled all flights between New York and a major British airport until 2025, warning travelers that it does not believe the problem will be resolved anytime soon.

The airline has canceled hundreds of long-haul flights from London Gatwick to New York in the coming months due to delays in the delivery of Trent 1000 engines from Rolls-Royce.

The popular route from the British capital and the Big Apple will be suspended from December 12 to March 25, 2025, with at least 103 flights expected to be affected.

A British Airways spokesperson said: ‘We are disappointed that we have had to make further changes to our schedule as we continue to experience delays in the delivery of Rolls-Royce engines and parts – particularly in relation to the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines mounted on our 787 aircraft.

‘We have taken this action because we do not believe that the problem will be resolved quickly and we want to offer our customers the certainty they deserve.

“We have apologized to those affected and can offer the vast majority a same-day flight on British Airways or one of our partner airlines,” they continued.

“We continue to work closely with Rolls-Royce to ensure the company is aware of the impact its issues have on our planning and customers, and seek the assurance of a quick and reliable solution.”

A Rolls Royce spokesperson added: ‘We continue to work with British Airways and all our customers to minimize the impact of limited spare parts availability due to the current supply chain restrictions.

“Unfortunately, this is an issue that affects the entire aerospace industry.”

The British airline selected Rolls-Royce Trent engines to power 24 of its Boeing 7687s in 2007, but the delay has reduced its fleet by 15 percent.

British holidaymakers heading to the US city over this year’s winter and Christmas period will now have to turn to other airlines, such as Virgin Atlantic, or head to London Heathrow, where British Airways flights to New York remain unaffected.

British Airways has also had to scale back plans to relaunch its route between London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, which was due to resume on November 12.

Now the route will most likely be available again in April 2025.
