There is a British champion at the US Open: Mika Stojsavljevic won the girls’ title.
The 15-year-old is the youngest winner since 2006, beating seventh-seeded Japanese Wakana Sonobe to become the first British winner of the event since Heather Watson in 2009.
“I’m super happy and super grateful,” said Stojsavljevic. Stojsavljevic is 6’1″ and wears size 12 shoes. She grew up idolizing Maria Sharapova and there are definitely Russian traits in her game, with a big serve and effortless power.
Her backhand in particular seems like a serious weapon.
National women’s coach Katie O’Brien said: “The sky is the limit for her. It was exceptional how well she rose to the occasion. She has such big guns. I can’t tell you how proud I am.

Stojsavljevic was born in Ealing, West London, the daughter of a Serbian-born British father and a Polish mother.
