Britain’s economy could benefit from a Taylor Swift boost

About the song: The ‘Taylor Swift effect’ is expected to have fueled growth

The UK economy is set to get a boost from Taylor Swift after fans splashed out on train tickets, restaurants and hotels, according to City analysts.

Official figures are expected to show a rebound in growth this week – and the Love Story singer may have played a part in that.

Economists expect June GDP figures, due to be published on Thursday, to show the impact of the ‘Swifties’ flocking to London, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cardiff to see their idol’s Eras tour.

They say the ‘Taylor Swift effect’ and the bustle in pubs during the European Championship will have boosted growth in the key service sector.

Investec analysts forecast GDP rose 0.7 percent in the second quarter, with monthly growth in June at 0.2 percent.

Swift will perform five more times at Wembley Stadium in London starting this week.
