Britain remained heavily dependent on Russian coal after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, according to new figures.
The government pledged to end all imports from the country six months ago.

But official figures show that from April to June, Russian coal accounted for 19 percent of British imports. That means that about 266,000 tons came from Russia.
The UK plans to halt imports of Russian coal and oil by the end of 2022.
In the summer, for the first time in history, the UK did not import oil or gas from Russia.
Total coal imports rose to 1.4 million tons, 44 percent more than the same period last year, as coal helped boost electricity supplies.
The US was the largest supplier, accounting for 54 percent of imports.
Earlier this year MEPs called for a ban on Russian coal in Britain and major steelmakers, including Tata and British Steel, stopped using it.
