Brit, 19, is ‘raped by 37-year-old man who plied her with laughing gas and attacked her when she felt dizzy’ on Greek party island Zakynthos

  • The 37-year-old was fined only four thousand euros
  • He has also been told that he is not allowed to leave the country and that he must report to a police station twice a month
  • The attack is said to have taken place at a hotel in Laganas, on the island of Zakynthos

A 37-year-old man allegedly drugged and raped a 19-year-old British tourist using laughing gas while they were on a Greek party island.

The unnamed tourist was allegedly raped by the man on the Greek party island of Zakynthos after he attacked her with laughing gas and abused her when she was dizzy.

Greek newspaper Vradyni reported that he was released by investigators on the island after an hour of apologizing to police, who accused him of rape and violating the country’s gun laws.

Greek police reportedly found two ampoules of nitrous oxide, balloons and 45 rounds of 32mm bullets in his hotel room in Laganas.

The unnamed man was reportedly fined just €4,000 and now has to report to his local police station twice a month, on the 1st and 15th. He is not allowed to leave the country.

The 19-year-old was allegedly attacked on the Greek party island of Zakynthos

The shocking news comes after an inquest found an 18-year-old woman committed suicide after being drugged and raped while on holiday on the same island.

Julie Crowe, 18, from Dunshaughlin, County Meath in Ireland, died after jumping from a bridge over the M3 motorway at Rathbeggan Lakes on November 4, 2019.

Dublin County Coroner’s Court heard how Julie had developed a low mood and thoughts of self-harm after being attacked while on holiday to Zakynthos with friends in August 2019.

Julie’s mother, Anna, told RTE in 2020, just two months after her daughter committed suicide, that it was only after speaking to friends that Julie realized she had been raped during their stay on the Greek island of Zakynthos.

A psychiatrist who examined Julie in October 2019 told the inquest he found she was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and a moderate depressive episode.

Dr. Omer Chaudhary said Julie had also come out as gay to her friends and family in June 2019 after returning from her holiday in Greece.

He recalled that the teenager complained that she could not cope and that she had more and more nightmares.

Dr. However, Chaudhary said she had not shown any active intention or plan to commit suicide.
