Bristol City 1-2 Norwich: Adah Idah’s 95th minute winner saves David Wagner’s blushes after Canaries come from a goal behind to secure all three points with dramatic comeback

  • The win moves Norwich up to 13th in the table, one place above Bristol in 14th
  • Jason Knight opened the scoring before George Tanner scored an own goal
  • Manchester United in a mess – they have a collapse in them – It all starts

When David Wagner returned to English football in January to take over faltering Norwich City, he was believed to be the man to help them return to the Premier League.

But on the hour he looked set to lose his job with the German, on course for his 20th defeat in 43 games against a resurgent Bristol City under Liam Manning.

However, a stunning display of fighting from his side in the second half saved his blushes, with Adam Idah outsmarting Zak Vyner to score a dramatic winner in the 95th minute.

Wagner rushed the sideline to celebrate with his players and found himself at the bottom of a team bundle amid ecstatic scenes.

Norwich's supporters serenaded their team at full-time, but Wagner still has some work to do as a large majority are still in favor of his sacking.

Earlier, George Tanner had accidentally put Dimitris Giannoulis' cross past Max O'Leary into his own net to cancel out Jason Knight's opener for the hosts.

Wagner – who was subject to angry chants during Tuesday's defeat to Watford – had further inflamed the anger of the Norwich fans before kick-off when he selected Kenny McLean out of position at centre-half, but it seemed a smart move.

They looked anything but a team short on confidence as they forced a series of early corners, with Jack Stacey and Ashely Barnes going close. Brazilian Gabriel Sara ran the show from midfield but when Onel Hernandez hit the post after fine work from Jonathan Rowe, the hosts came alive.

Taylor Gardner-Hickman – the Robins' Player of the Month for November – forced Angus Gunn into one of three fantastic saves in the first half, but it was Knight who broke the deadlock.

Gunn parried George Tanner's sharp cross into the danger area after a fine move and Knight was there to fire home his first league goal for the club.

Tommy Conway and Knight then had golden opportunities to double the lead, but Gunn made two extended stops.

Norwich supporters – who traveled in droves – ironically began chanting 'it's all our fault', perhaps in response to co-owner Delia Smith's comments this week that 20 per cent of the fanbase are 'whiners'.

Their side did heed Smith's call to action as they came out fighting in the second half, before a lunging Tanner was given the ignominy of putting someone past his own keeper.

The more mobile Adam Idah replaced Ashley Barnes for Norwich to extend the line, but both sides seemed to lack that extra bit of quality.

It was the hosts who piled on the pressure, but when Idah broke through and stopped Vyner, he ensured Norwich would take the points with the final kick of the match.
