A man has been found dead next to fallen power lines after a severe thunderstorm swept through Brisbane.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Friday afternoon for devastating winds of up to 200 kilometers per hour, large hailstones and heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding.

Emergency services were called to Murarrie Road just after 5pm to reports an unconscious man had been found near fallen power lines.

Upon arrival, a 30-year-old Murarrie man was found with life-threatening injuries.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

This is an emerging situation and the investigation is ongoing.

The police will prepare a report for the coroner.
