Brisbane traffic accidents: Carnage on the roads with police hunting killer hit-and-run driver as two die and a major city route is closed down after a string of horror crashes
An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on Thursday morning, just hours after a motorcyclist was killed in one of a series of horror crashes in Queensland overnight.
The man in his 70s was hit by a mysterious car at Kittyhawk Drive and Murphy Road in Brisbane’s Chernside about 5.15am.
Paramedics found him in a critical condition with head, pelvic and leg injuries and he was rushed to the Royal Brisbane Hospital in a critical condition but later died.
Police continue to search for the vehicle involved and the investigation is ongoing, a spokesperson said

Just two hours earlier, a motorcyclist was reportedly killed after a 3.20am collision near Hendra in Brisbane, on the on-ramp to the Southern Cross Way.
Paramedics found the cyclist in a critical condition, but he was later reported to have died.
The main route into the city center was closed following the accident, but has since reopened with reduced lanes.
The driver, 29, of a Toyota SUV was also taken to hospital in a serious condition after a head-on collision with a Jeep SUV on the Bruce Highway near Curra, north of the Sunshine Coast.
A motorcyclist was also killed at Hendra in Brisbane at 3.20am. Three people were injured in a further two accidents, with a man and a woman taken to hospital
The driver of the Jeep, a 28-year-old Mulambin man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Gympie Hospital.
And in a fourth crash, a woman was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a two-vehicle crash near Yarraman, northwest of Brisbane, overnight.
Initial investigations indicate that around 8 p.m., a four-wheel drive was traveling westbound on D’Anguilar Highway when it collided with a truck traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the 4WD was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.
A female passenger was only slightly injured and the truck driver was not physically injured.
