Man sparks outrage after saying Aussies who don’t attend Anzac Day dawn service are not welcome at the pub – but one detail saw him slammed as ‘disrespectful’

A Queensland man has divided thousands of Australians after claiming people who do not attend the morning service will not be allowed into pubs on Anzac Day.

Many agreed with the sharp criticism of people for using a sad Remembrance Day to go out drinking with friends.

But others said people should be able to pay their respects in the way that suits them best, and called out the man for being “disrespectful” for taking out his phone during the minute’s silence set aside for the Anzacs’ commemoration .

“If you don’t feel like doing a morning service you won’t be welcome in the pub later, end of story,” the man captioned a TikTok video of the sun rising over a morning service in Redcliffe.

“One morning of the year, Aussies,” he captioned the clip, which quickly racked up more than 221,000 views and hundreds of comments.

A Brisbane man has caused a stir after claiming those who don’t attend the morning service will not be allowed to go to the pub on Anzac Day

‘I just finished a 13-hour night shift and my entire mine site is on its way to the morning shift. No excuses,” one viewer agreed.

“I think everyone should go unless they have a real reason, like illness or something. I will attend both morning and day services out of respect for my great-grandfather. Lest we forget,” wrote a second.

“Thanks someone said it,” another replied, with someone adding: “Went in the pouring rain this morning, even my sister got up and she’s as crooked as a dog.”

Many came to the defense of those who did not attend morning services.

‘Sorry, but my newborn baby comes first. “I’ll pay my respects, but I can’t exactly attend morning service with a screaming baby,” said one mother.

“What if I told you that you can still show respect when you’re not in the morning service? And to include everyone at all times is the AUSTRALIAN way!” another blow back.

“Maybe some of us have been working 6 to 5 all week so we’ll pay our respects later today,” one user explained while someone else chimed in: “I finished work at 12 last night, give me a pause’.

Some took issue with the man taking videos on his phone while The Last Post was playing.

“This guy holds up his phone during the morning shift like he’s with the Foo Fighters,” one person complained.

“What about disrespectful people like this who keep their phones out all the time to film just to say they’ve gone?” asked another.

“Movies during the last post – classy,” said one viewer.

‘What if we only start creating social media content? Are we still allowed in the pub?’ joked another.
