This is the one huge gripe I have with Australian drivers these days – and hundreds of others agree with me

A driver has vented his frustration at fellow motorists for not adhering to an unspoken road etiquette rule.

The Brisbane woman said no one politely waves ‘thank you’ when she lets them merge in front of her or change lanes.

She said someone even made a rude gesture when she let him pass in front of her.

Dozens were quick to agree, saying people have become more “self-centered and selfish” on Australian roads – but not everyone was affected.

‘Why doesn’t anyone wave in traffic anymore? Every time someone lets me in, I wave to say, β€œThank you.” Every time,” the driver ranted on Reddit.

“But if I slow down to let someone merge in front of me or make a turn, they just keep driving without a care in the world!”

She said she even had a “jerk” turn her around when he stood up for her.

β€œDo you want to ruin it for everyone, you selfish bastards? Keep it up and I’ll stop merging people immediately!’ she said.

The after fellow drivers got excited as many said they had noticed the same trend.

“Because everyone hates everyone,” one user joked, while another said, “People are getting way too self-centered and selfish these days.”

‘Sense of entitlement. Manners and respect seem to be a thing of the past,” a third replied.

β€œI had someone merge in front of me and he gave me a thumbs up instead of waving. It actually made me very happy,” one person added.

Many said they always make sure to wave as a courtesy, even if people don’t wave it back.

‘I wave and that’s all that matters. I have noticed that people have become more self-contained after the COVID-19 crisis,” said one driver.

“I ALWAYS wave… I learned respect and politeness growing up,” a second commented.

‘I’m still waving. There are some of us out there. Don’t stop waving because everyone else is a loser,” a third replied.

But not everyone was bothered by not getting a wave of drivers.

β€œMy thing is if you have to let me in, congratulations on following the rules, you don’t need a thank you. If you don’t have to let me in, and you did, you get a wave,” one user explained.

Someone else said: ‘Who cares?! I wave because I like to be grateful that the person let me in. If others don’t do it when I merge, why do I care? I just try to be safe on the road. There is no law that you have to wave. If the wave is all that matters, that means I can just interrupt you and wave and say, ‘Well, I waved.'”
