Aussie coal miner wearing thongs and board shorts reveals the staggering amount of money he takes home per year

An underground miner has revealed he takes home almost $300,000 a year.

The worker was interviewed in Brisbane’s CBD this week by a member of the Getahead app, which is similar to Tinder but for jobs.

When asked how much he earned, the man said that because he was self-employed, he took home just under $300,000.

A man in Brisbane revealed he earns around $300,000 a year as a self-employed miner

“My whole family has always done it (and) I’ve been doing it since I was 17,” he said.

‘Anyone can do it, you just have to do a Standard 11 first.’

A Standard 11 is a government certified training module that must be completed by anyone wishing to work in mining.

It is designed to ensure employees understand the correct safety information and obligations and typically takes two days to complete.

However, the miner warned that the work is not for the faint of heart and that he sometimes works as much as a kilometer underground.

“I don’t get scared, but there are other people who have come down for the first time and immediately wanted to get back out because they couldn’t handle it,” he said.

‘It is clearly a dangerous job, you have to deal with layers of earth, falling roofs, gas explosions.’

Fellow TikTokkers pointed out how casually the miner was dressed despite his enormous wealth.

He was seen wearing a pair of thongs, blue board shorts and a patterned shirt.

He also had shopping bags from JB Hi-Fi and Rebel Sport.

The average salary for underground miners is around $150,000, according to job platform Talent.

Obviously, because the guy is a subcontractor, he can almost double that amount.
